Guru Ranjan Mullaratt

Ranjan Mullaratt is the artistic Director and the producer of the award winning film Dhehi.

As a child, Ranjan attracted with Kalaripayyattu and started practice with his parents. He then trained seriously in it under Sri P.K. Balan Gurukkal, Kerala, who is one of the legendary Gurukkals of Kalaripayyattu. He is appreciated with the prestigious award “Swami Vivekananda and sister Margret Award - 2016”.

Ranjan Mullaratt is a Kalaripayyattu master and the head of the Kalari Gurukulam,

Bangalore, India.In an effort to popularize Kalaripayyattu as an art form, Ranjan has led performances atcultural events, given lecture demonstrations, and conducted programs to create

awareness of the martial arts form amongst the youth. He has had the privilege to personally perform at prestigious events such as the French Festival Latitudes Vilette Lude de Sud and Olympic Council of Asia at Kuwait.

He has successfully established Kalaripayyattu presence in other performing arts terrain too by choreographing Kalaripayyattu sequences for theatre and films. Also, theatre and movie personalities have sought his expertise for kalari movements and techniques for their specific performance needs. He has been part of a few prominent advertisement campaigns.

A Physics graduate, Ranjan continues to inspire the aspiring martial arts students with his dedication and guidance. Having produced documentaries himself, he has a authored the kalaripayattu book “Kalari margam ancient secrets to modern living” and several DVDs to his credit. He is also the achiever of “Swami Vivekananda and sister Margret Award - 2016”

ABOUT KALARIPAYATTU

The art is trained in an enclosure called ‘Kalari’, which is 21 feet by 42 feet. The entrance faces the east. In the south-west corner is a seven-tiered platform called the "poothara", which houses the guardian deity of the kalari. These seven steps sy mbolise seven abilities each person requires. They include Vigneswa (Strength), Channiga (patience), Vishnu (commanding power)
